2020 is turning out to be quite the year, to put it mildly! Despite the wild ride that is the Coronavirus pandemic, the vegan revolution continues to go from strength to strength.
If you’re new to the lifestyle, or are thinking about making the change, here are four tips to help with the transformation.
Get in the know.
There is a wealth of vegan resources out there, including articles on the ethics, health and the appalling damage that eating meat is having on the planet. Alternatively, if you prefer visual over reading, then check any number of vegan-themed movies for extra inspiration – such as Earthlings, Forks Over Knives, Game Changers or Dominion. There are also vegan support sites all over the internet and social media. Go vegan – get new friends! Awesome.
Preparation is key.
Many vegans were raised with meat, dairy and eggs as regular parts of meal-time. So, it can seem hard to shake off past habits. However, it is now easier and better than ever to make the vegan switch. Vegan food is getting better, varied and more popular all of the time! On top of that, when you know the vegan moment has arrived, take the opportunity to clear out your kitchen of old non-vegan stuff – psychologically that will help you make the move to veganism. Also, why not treat yourself to a vegan cook-book or two?
If you slip, don’t worry!
Nobody ever learned to ride a bike first time round. If you slip as a new vegan and accidentally eat something with dairy milk in it (and that stuff gets nearly everywhere!) it’s not the end of the world. Just get back up into the vegan saddle and keep on cycling! Pretty much every vegan ever has had their slips – you’ll likely be no different!
Become friends with old clothes!
Ok, let’s face it, who doesn’t have a pile of clothes tucked away somewhere that never get thrown because, well, “one day…”? Vegan pro-tip – get them out of the wardrobe and back in view. You can then marvel at how you’ll start to fit back into them better in coming weeks and months! Another vegan win!
