How to travel as a vegan

Travel Trend

It can sometimes be challenging to travel if you live on a vegan diet. When you are on the go and must find some snacks or find a place to eat, it can be a jungle to figure out if the food or dish is vegan, especially if you don’t understand the language. Fortunately, there are getting more places in the world that have vegan dishes on the menu, so it is easier than it used to be.

When you travel as a vegan, it can mean that you must be more prepared before going, so you know where to get food. It can be a great idea to let the hosts at your stays know beforehand. Today there are also many hotels and B&B’s there are all vegan or vegan friendly, which also makes everything easier for you, and you know you are always waking up to a delicious vegan breakfast.

Be prepared before traveling
It can be a good idea to do some preparation before you travel. Here are 4 tips that will help you, when you are going on trips.

  • Are you traveling by flight, it is a good idea to contact the airline beforehand to order vegan meals. Otherwise, they may not have a vegan meal for you because they only bring the exact things onboard that are needed. If you are going on a long flight, it is very nice to eat something during the journey.
  • Find out which restaurants in the area you’re going to that have vegan dishes. You can, for instance, use TripAdvisor and read vegan travel blogs to find inspiration.
  • Inform the host of the hotel or B&B’s where you stay that you only eat plant-based food. In that way, they can have something prepared for you if they don’t have it usually.
  • Learn essential words and phrases in the language of the country you are going to. It can be phrases like ‘no meat’ ‘no cheese’, ‘no eggs’, ‘no milk’. If you can say these phrases, it can be much easier for you to make sure that the meals you order do not contain any of these elements.

In general, as a vegan, it is always a good idea to bring snacks with you. But especially when you are traveling, always bring snacks in your bag. It is often easier to spontaneously find some food if you’re a meat-eater, but it can be more challenging for a vegan, especially if you don’t know the area or country that you are visiting.
