Vegan Milks and Best Uses


In the past decade the vegan milk industry has exploded. Gone are the days of only finding soy milk at your local grocery store, now it seems as if you can find a new type of vegan milk on all grocery outings.

While all vegan milks are great alternatives, and favoritism just boils down to one owns opinion, each milk option has a favorite vegan use by many.

Almond Milk

One of the first mainstream milk substitutes, almond milk has become a classic choice for any vegan. Almond milk is a great choice to use while baking due to its richness and thickness. The texture and consistency is similar to milk and creates delicious sweet treats.

Another classic, vegan milk, soy milk, is also a great baking alternative. Soy milk has a mild flavor so it does not interfere with the taste of the sweet treats but is light enough so breads and baked goods rise easily.

Cashew Milk

A creamy and delicious alternative to try, cashew milk is perfect for a smoothie. The milk is similar is taste to almond milk but slightly sweeter and creamier making it perfect for any type of smoothie, whether it’s a sweet berry smoothie or green power smoothie.

Oat Milk

Oat milk is gaining popularity due to its delicious compatibility with coffee. In the past few years the oat milk in coffee trend has exploded with many people declaring their love for this pair on social media. 

Oat milk also contains extra fiber and vitamins and minerals from the oats making it a great healthy addition to anyone’s day.

Rice Milk

The sweet taste of rice milk makes it a great option for baking. However, this milk lacks protein, so make sure you add even more flavor and protein to your baked goods by adding a scoop of some vanilla – or any flavor – vegan protein powder.

Flax Milk

Flax milk is another great milk alternative to use for sweet and savory dishes. However, same as rice milk, flax milk lacks protein and fiber, so be sure to add those supplements in other parts of your diet.

Coconut Milk

A milk that has done its time and created a strong following in the dairy free world is coconut milk.

Coconut milk has a light and sweet flavor that is a great stand alone milk alternative. This milk is also great for adding to your bowl of cereal in the morning due to its lightness and sweetness. 

Coconut milk is an extremely refreshing option that is perfect to help beat the summer heat or cool down after a work out.
